Latest findings: seaweed against obesity

According to the World Health Organisation, there are around 650 million adults considered to be affected by obesity, with the risk of developing other health conditions.

A recent research study funded by BBSRC , IBioIC and Algaia and coordinated by Robert Gordon University demonstrates the potential of using seaweed extract for obesity management or treatment.

Indeed, markers of oxidative stress and inflammation linked to obesity have been shown to reduce significantly both in cell and whole organism models by a Fucus serratus polyphenol rich extract.

Focus is now on understanding more about the mechanisms of action of the extract…to be continued.
