Business Development Manager - BIOSTIMULANTS

Principal Accountabilities

Algaia is a fast growing biotechnology company developing, producing and commercializing specialty ingredients, actives, products and services in the field of extracts issued from natural algae origin.

Algaia sells products and services in various sectors of the Food, Cosmetics, Technical, Nutraceuticals and Agriculture industries across the globe in more than 40 countries. With its production facility located just 20km away from the largest brown-seaweed field in Europe and processing over 40,000 mt of fresh seaweed yearly, its state-of-the-art R&D facility in Normandy and its commercial head office in Paris, its unique combination of talents having decades of experience built in the conventional and specialty Algae extract industries, Algaia is uniquely positioned to serve the industry with professionalism of large organization most of its leaders are coming from and agility of start-ups that part of the company is also originated from.

During the course of 2018, Algaia will enlarge its portfolio of products and offering with liquid Biostimulants extracted from brown algae, focusing the Ag. B-to-B arena only (e.g. formulators, complex biostimulant producers, themselves selling to retail home garden, vineyard, filed crop etc…). Algaia does not aim to address the end market. This activity will complete Algaia’s current algae based Biofertilizer’s activity.

In order to boost its development, Algaia is looking for its Biostimulant Business Development manager. The position will be located in Saint-Lô (Normandy) with possibilities of home office. The position will have over 70% of its time dedicated to customer/prospect interfacing at international level and more specifically Europe, Latin America and USA. 

You will be in charge of:

  • Establishing and driving the business development plan, including new product launching processes
  • Prospecting & analyzing market opportunities, establishing tactics and strategies to differentiate on the market place
  • Coordinating with Algaia’ R&D center and  technical experts, the customer support initiatives and new product development plans
  • Giving instructions to the commercial and logistic department on the range he/she is responsible for
  • Leading pricing (value based) and product positioning strategy
  • Searching for new partnership and insuring, together with the company’s Technology & Innovation Director, execution of the Joint Development Programs that might have been established together with Algaia’s partner(s).
  • Optimizing company’s working capital and maximizing profitability

You will be accountable for the company’s Biostimulant and Biofertilizer’s P&L.

Profile & Qualifications:

  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset
  • 5+ years experience in Biostimulant industry with strong technical expertise, ideally in the field of Algae extracts
  • English & Spanish: Fluent (must) French would be a plus (optional) 
  • Autonomous
  • 3+ years experience in sales / business development
  • Strong customer relationship skills
  • Proven ability to build industry network at international level
  • Proven ability to influence sales, technical, marketing and manufacturing professionals to achieve business strategy and objectives
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to get things done
  • Team player
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Good financial knowledge
  • Experience in development, manufacturing and product development in the field of Biostimulants and Biofertilizers
